Our platform reflects what we have heard from you. Through city surveys, public meetings, countless conversations, and Port Moody Voice’s own engagement events.

This is how Port Moody Voice is different. We didn’t develop our platform in the dark – we built it with the community in real time. And we will be fully accountable for our progress once elected.

MEANINGFUL PARTICIPATION

Listening to you is the starting point for every major decision. Meaningful engagement doesn’t slow good decisions down – it makes them better.

CITIZEN ADVISORY GROUP

A Citizens Advisory Group selected by random draw to bring broader perspectives and eliminate political gatekeeping

OUTREACH THAT COMES TO YOU

Outreach that comes to you, instead of expecting you to come to us

INPUT THAT MATTERS

Your input on decisions that matter – before minds are made up

Establish a Citizens Advisory Group called together on major issues, with members chosen by random draw from applicants – preventing politicization and ensuring diverse perspectives

Restore the Advisory Design Panel – reinstating independent expert review of development applications to ensure what gets built meets a standard the community can be proud of

Improve outreach to renters, young people, seniors, families, local businesses, and residents who don’t traditionally participate in civic processes – because a decision made without hearing from you isn’t a fully informed one

• Conclude every major public engagement with a “What we heard and what we did” summary, ending the practice of consultations that don’t impact anything.

OPEN & ACCESSIBLE LOCAL GOVERNMENT

Port Moody Voice believes local government works best when residents are informed, involved, and respected.

Publish plain-language summaries for major reports and development proposals – written for residents, not just Council

Publish the data, reports, and analysis behind major recommendations in an easily accessible format, so you can see exactly what decisions are based on

PUBLIC OVERSIGHT OF PLANNING & DEVELOPMENT

Oversight of development in our community should start with community.

End the City’s paid membership in the Urban Development Institute (UDI) to reinforce public confidence in independent decision making

Publish an annual “State of Community Report” showing how infrastructure, parks, recreation, transit, and services will keep pace with growth, along with regularly updated cost projections – giving you the full picture, not just the highlights

• Launch a public dashboard tracking development applications and approvals against the City’s identified housing needs – so housing needs are visible and you can hold Council accountable

Improve public notices for development applications, including visual renderings and plain-language summaries – so you know with clarity what’s proposed in your neighbourhood

HOW WE WILL GOVERN

These are the principles and practices that will guide how Port Moody Voice operates at the Council table – more than campaign promises, standards we hold ourselves to from day one.

PRIORITIZE THE PUBLIC

New ways of reaching residents while removing any barriers that make it harder to engage

OPEN MEETINGS

Eliminate closed meetings unless legally required under provincial legislation, and proactively release information whenever confidentiality no longer necessary

MEANINGFUL COMMITTEES

Committee volunteers will have greater autonomy and a meaningful impact on city priorities

CONSTRUCTIVE COUNCIL MEETINGS

Restructure council meetings for back-and-forth discussion and collaboration rather than a series of one-way speeches
