Port Moody Voice will be fielding a full slate of candidates in the 2026 Port Moody municipal election and this page will be updated with each announcement. Each candidate will be dedicated to standing up for a future that the residents of this community want to see.
Haven Lurbiecki, Mayoral Candidate

Since being elected to Port Moody City Council in 2022, Haven has been fighting hard for you, championing the right for people to be heard and fighting for the needs of our community. She has represented the community’s calls for truly moderate growth, affordable and livable housing, growing the local economy, and park expansion, while shining a light on decision-making at city hall. During her term she has brought forward numerous considerations to the council focused on improving public engagement, increasing transparency, and ensuring development meets the needs of the community. Some examples include:
- Advocated for a community referendum so residents could have the final say on tower heights in Moody Centre.
- Proposed a bold expansion of Rocky Point Park to secure more green space for future generations.
- Led the call for greater transparency such as through the creation of a lobbyist registry.
- Pushed for meaningful public engagement on major development plans, including the 14- tower framework in Moody Centre.
Haven has worked tirelessly to keep residents informed and she fearlessly speaks up on issues that matter. Why? Because like you, she loves our community and recognizes just how special Port Moody is. She cares deeply about its residents and has full trust that they can help guide the future direction of our city.
As Mayor Haven will continue to champion your voice and the issues that matter at city hall.
Prior to being elected to council she was an active volunteer on city committees and in following municipal discussions where she directly championed these issues to city council. She came to the job prepared.
Outside of local government, Haven has worked as a senior policy analyst and currently runs her own consultancy. Haven holds a Bachelor of Science Degree from Simon Fraser University and a Masters Degree in Resource and Environmental Management from Dalhousie University.
When not hard at work, you can find Haven enjoying Port Moody and BC’s amazing trails and parks or having a cup of coffee with her husband Rick. She has two wonderful step kids and one overly exuberant dog named Ace (by far the most recognized member of the family around town).

Mark Kunzli, Council Candidate

Mark is a pharmacist, health care leader, and proud Port Moody dad running for City Council with Port Moody Voice.
Mark never expected to run for office. Like many residents, he first got involved after attending a public hearing. He attended as a father concerned about how quickly our city was changing and whether residents were truly being heard. He spoke up, kept showing up, and became increasingly frustrated watching thoughtful community concerns brushed aside. Eventually, he decided the best way to help make a difference was to step forward himself.
Today, he serves on the City’s Transportation Committee, where he focuses on practical issues that affect daily life — traffic congestion, road safety, walkability, and advocating for infrastructure to keep pace with growth. As a parent raising two young daughters in Port Moody, Mark understands firsthand the pressures families face and he believes local government works best when decisions reflect the real experiences of the people living here.
Mark has spent nearly 20 years working in community health care as a pharmacist and health care leader. He graduated from the UBC Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences and later earned an MBA in Health Care from the UBC Sauder School of Business. Throughout his career, he has focused on solving problems, improving access to care, and helping communities navigate complex challenges. He currently serves on the Boards of Directors for both the BC Pharmacy Association and the Canadian Pharmacists Association.
He believes growth should be thoughtful, responsible, and matched with the infrastructure and services residents need. He believes development should deliver on its promises, residents deserve a meaningful voice in decisions, and trust in local government starts with listening.
Mark is running to help build a Port Moody where families feel heard, neighbourhoods stay connected, and residents can feel confident about the future of our city.
Laura Soucy, Council Candidate

Laura is a lifelong Port Moody resident, housing professional and community advocate running for Council with Port Moody Voice.
Her family moved to Port Moody when she was four years old, and she has lived here for most of her adult life. She grew up in co-op housing and later raised her son as a single parent in co-op housing as well – experiences that shaped her understanding of the importance of stable, affordable, and community-oriented housing.
Laura has worked in the co-operative housing sector for more than 20 years and is currently the Director of Management Services at COHO Management Services Society. Through her work, she has developed a strong, practical understanding of how communities function day to day and how housing policy impacts real people and families.
Laura also brings extensive governance experience. She currently serves on the board of a non-profit housing society and has previously served on the board of her own co-op community, giving her both professional and lived experience in collaborative decision-making and community leadership.
As a brain tumor survivor, Laura brings resilience, perspective, and a deep appreciation for the importance of strong, supportive and healthy communities.
She is running for City Council because she believes Port Moody needs leadership that listens to residents, focuses on livability, and makes decisions grounded in real community experience.
