PORT MOODY, BC — [June 10, 2026] — Lifelong Port Moody resident Laura Soucy has announced her candidacy for City Council as part of the Port Moody Voice team. She brings more than 20 years of experience in co-op and affordable housing.

Soucy grew up in Port Moody, raised her son here, and says the city’s future is deeply personal to her. She believes restoring trust between City Hall and residents starts with real transparency and meaningful public engagement, especially on major decisions like housing and development.
Soucy has built her career in co-operative housing, helping create affordable, livable homes and strong communities. That experience, she says, has shown her that better outcomes come when people are involved early, listened to seriously, and reflected in the decisions being made.
“The current Council has stopped listening,” said Soucy. “Instead of working with residents to shape the kind of community we actually want to live in, they’ve been approving tower after tower of small condos that don’t reflect what families here need or can afford.”
She argues that Port Moody’s housing challenges are not going to be solved by unit counts alone, pointing to a growing shortage of family housing, seniors housing, and genuinely affordable homes. Soucy says the city needs a stronger focus on building the right kinds of housing, not just more housing.
“Real housing solutions come from understanding what’s actually missing in our community,” she said. “Right now, we’re not addressing these gaps and we need to.”
Throughout her career, Soucy has brought together housing providers, governments, and community organizations to find common ground and deliver practical solutions. She says that collaborative approach is what’s missing at City Hall.
“Good housing policy isn’t just about approving whatever comes forward,” she said. “It’s about working with residents to shape what gets built, and making sure it actually meets community needs. That’s how you build trust. Right now, that trust is broken.”

“Port Moody’s best days are ahead of us,” Soucy added. “But only if we work together, listen better, and put residents back at the centre of decision-making.”
Soucy joins a growing Port Moody Voice team focused on accountability, transparency, and putting community voices back at the heart of City Hall decisions.
